About Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

This is an extremely common condition that causes episodic numbness, tingling and burning in the hands.  Most often, those affected have symptoms at night or in the morning.  It can affect anyone, but tends to more prevalent as we age. Those with diabetes and thyroid disease have a higher incidence of this problem.  Often patients wonder if repetitive tasks, typing or work may be be related to the onset of disease.  In most cases it is difficult to find the cause, as the disease is quite common, and the cause if multifactorial. The best understood link to this disease is with the use of vibratory tools.

There are many described treatments for this problem.  Unfortunately many of these remedies have little or no evidence of efficacy, or have been shown to be ineffective, although they continue to be used.  There are several useful and proven modalities in treatment, including night splinting, injection therapy, activity modification, and surgical release of the carpal tunnel.

If you are concerned regarding this problem, we can perform a detailed examination, order x-rays and other tests as needed and discuss the options with you and find the option that best suits your needs. Contact us today.
